For This Week

Good Day Guys,

As you know I will be absent for the next 4 days and I expect you to do what ever work I have left for you . Does not matter which teacher comes to class what ever she says to do -- you must do. Remember you have a vocabulary quiz this Thursday on the chapters 5,6 and 7 so make sure you get the work sheets to study. I will leave notes here everyday and you can reply back in the comments section. So behave and NO COD!

LETTER FOR THE UNIVERSITY -SAMPLE

From the time I was able to realize what a university was, all I heard from my mother's side of the family was about the University of Michigan and the great heritage it has. Many a Saturday afternoon my grandfather would devote to me, by sitting me down in front of the television and reminiscing about the University of Michigan while halftime occurred during a Michigan Wolverines football game. Later, as I grew older and universities took on greater meaning, my mother and uncle, both alumni of the University of Michigan, took me to see their old stamping grounds. From first sight, the university looked frightening because of its size, but with such a large school comes diversity of people and of academic and non-academic events.

In Springfield High School, non-academic clubs such as the Future Physicians and the Pylon, both of which I have belonged to for two years, give me an opportunity to see both the business world and the medical world. These two clubs have given me a greater sense of what these careers may be like. In Future Physicians, I participated in field trips to children's hospitals and also participated in two bloodbanks.
Currently I hold a job at Maas Brothers. This lets me interact with people outside my own immediate environment. I meet different kinds of people, in different moods, with different attitudes, and with different values. This job teaches me to be patient with people, to have responsibility, and to appreciate people for what they are.
In the community I am active in my church Youth Group. As a high school sophomore, I was our church's representative to the Diocesan Youth Fellowship. I helped organize youth group events, the largest being "The Bishop's Ball," a state-wide event for 300 young people. I also played high school junior varsity soccer for two years. As a senior I will be playing varsity soccer, but in the off-season. As a junior I coached a girls' soccer team for the town. This gave me a great deal of responsibility because the care of twenty-four girls was put into my custody. It felt very satisfying to pass on the knowledge of soccer to another generation. The girls played teams from other parts of Florida. Though their record was 3-8, the girls enjoyed their season. This is what I taught them was the greatest joy of soccer.
The past three years of my life have given me greater visions of my future. I see the University of Michigan as holding a large book with many unread chapters and myself as an eager child who has just learned to read. I intend to read and probe into all the chapters. The University of Michigan offers me more than the great reputation of this fine school, but a large student body with diverse likes and dislikes, and many activities, both academic and non-academic, to participate in. With the help of the University of Michigan, I will be successful after college and be able to make a name and place for myself in our society.

University Application Letter from Student

It took me eighteen years to realize what an extraordinary influence my mother has been on my life. She's the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about which artist she would most want to have her portrait painted by (Sargent), the kind of mother who always has time for her four children, and the kind of community leader who has a seat on the board of every major project to assist Washington's impoverished citizens. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for a new sense of life, love, and spirit.

My mother's enthusiasm for learning is most apparent in travel. I was nine years old when my family visited Greece. Every night for three weeks before the trip, my older brother Peter and I sat with my mother on her bed reading Greek myths and taking notes on the Greek Gods. Despite the fact that we were traveling with fourteen-month-old twins, we managed to be at each ruin when the site opened at sunrise. I vividly remember standing in an empty ampitheatre pretending to be an ancient tragedian, picking out my favorite sculpture in the Acropolis museum, and inserting our family into modified tales of the battle at Troy. Eight years and half a dozen passport stamps later I have come to value what I have learned on these journeys about global history, politics and culture, as well as my family and myself.

While I treasure the various worlds my mother has opened to me abroad, my life has been equally transformed by what she has shown me just two miles from my house. As a ten year old, I often accompanied my mother to (name deleted), a local soup kitchen and children's center. While she attended meetings, I helped with the Summer Program by chasing children around the building and performing magic tricks. Having finally perfected the "floating paintbrush" trick, I began work as a full time volunteer with the five and six year old children last June. It is here that I met Jane Doe, an exceptionally strong girl with a vigor that is contagious. At the end of the summer, I decided to continue my work at (name deleted) as Jane’s tutor. Although the position is often difficult, the personal rewards are beyond articulation. In the seven years since I first walked through the doors of (name deleted), I have learned not only the idea of giving to others, but also of deriving from them a sense of spirit.

Everything that my mother has ever done has been overshadowed by the thought behind it. While the raw experiences I have had at home and abroad have been spectacular, I have learned to truly value them by watching my mother. She has enriched my life with her passion for learning, and changed it with her devotion to humanity. In her endless love of everything and everyone she is touched by, I have seen a hope and life that is truly exceptional. Next year, I will find a new home miles away. However, my mother will always be by my side.

LC4 - UNIVERSITY PROJECT

You will create 3 different pages to hand in as well as a multi- media presentation using Apple i-Work programs - Pages( same as word to created the letters and brochures) and Keynote to create the presentation ( same as Powerpoint).

Part 1- Application Letter to the University- You should mention - Why you want to go to this University, What you know about the school, what program you wish to study, and any questions you may have for the school. --(200 Words)

Part 2- Letter to the University why they should accept you- A small autobiography about your self telling them why you are different and better then all the other applicants they have. Talk about your life and future goals and what makes you a good choice for their University. (200-300 words)

Part 3- Visual Presentation to the class using i-Work Pages to create a brochure type presetation. About 2 pages telling about the University you have chosen- Where it is , the size, the programs they offer , and any other relevant information about the University - should include visuals and pictures.

Part 4- Presentation for the class about the school you chose in a slide show using i-Work - Keynote- about 6 slides-- make it interesting for better marks. 5-7 min presentation to the class.

Sunday"s Notes

Good Morning Guys,
As you may or may have not noticed, I am absent so you will have someone fill in for me. What I need you to do is continue the work we were doing last day in the work book about the metro systems in three cities. Go on with the Vocabulary exercise in the work book page 40 -42. And check the blog again tomorrow for more instructions.
You should also have your blog (homework) posted by the end of the day today, the one describing the bar graph- at least 150 words.

Guys,
This has come to us from Dubai so don't tell me you didn't know :

G12 students must submit 10 pieces of writing according to the following schedule as practice for the IELTS exam. Teachers must assign a topic according to the guidelines below and mark each student’s writing, giving the student feedback, and if necessary asking him to re-write the piece and re-submit it based on the feedback. Marks will be included in the class marks. Each piece must be submitted on the due date.
